I used to live in an English country town with a population of 10,000. They couldn't half fill the church on a Sunday.
And I can't see India as a competitor to China. I used to run an electronic component exporting country in the UK. China became our biggest customer with about 40 customers, in India we had just one, a rather weak one.
India indeed lacks the ability to compete with China now; the disparity in strength between the two countries is significant. However, who would have imagined decades ago that China would one day challenge the United States in overall power? As long as India avoids fragmentation and streamlines its internal governance to become a truly unified nation, rather than a loose conglomeration of quasi-autonomous regions, it could potentially have the capability to compete with both the United States and China in the future. Of course, this will depend on India's plan and execution in future.
